Travel Trailer Accessories You’ll Actually Use

We do a lot of family camping over here at Dirt Road Family Adventures! We have a Forest River 178 BHSK that we pull with our Jeep Gladiator. There is not a lot of room in either vehicle to keep “extra” stuff. All the items that we list below are travel trailer accessories that you’ll actually use! We use them all and they fit in our tiny trailer.

A couple of these RV accessories, might be a little over the top to a few people. But they have helped us and we use all of these items (And a lot of RVer’s we know use them as well). We keep most of them in a tote under the camper. Or they are mounted somewhere in/on the camper.

Towing Mirrors

MId-size trucks do not have large enough mirrors to help you see all the way to the back of the trailer. We had to do some research in finding a set of tow mirrors for the Jeep. If you have a Jeep, these are a good set.

Heat Only Thermostat

We now can control the heat temperature just like at the house. It was always a guess as to which line on the thermostat was 70 degrees. Was it the 3rd line from the back or the 4th?

Bathroom Faucet

Y’all, RV bathroom faucets are the smallest tiniest spigot. I don’t even know how they call those faucets. Ours was placed too far back so when you turned on the water it was getting water on the counter. The water was barely getting in the sink. So this is the faucet that we used now! So.Much.Better!

RVlock Keyless Entry Keypad

Rumor has it that we all have the same front door key to our campers. That’s what “they” say, who ever “they” is. So we got the RVlock on one of the Amazon Deal Days. So now we have the fancy lock!

Water Pressure Regulator

This regulates the water pressure from the outside spigot into the camper. We choose this one so we can regulate the pressure to dial it down if the pressure is high coming from the spigot. This just helps prevent water damage inside of the camper.

Black Tank Flush Hose

If you have a black tank flush, use it. We had used our camper for about a year before we bought the hose and used the flush. AND the only reason we did is because we couldn’t figure out why our brand new camper kept showing that the black tank was always 2/3 full. Well…once we bought the hose and used it, we were blown away about how much waste it got out. If you have the flush…use it!

Memory Foam Mattress

Sleeping on an RV mattress is just like sleeping on plywood. This is the one that we bought and it’s amazing.

Solar Panel

This is one of those expensive items that some campers feel like they don’t need. Which I totally get. We chose to just get the solar panel. We do not have an inverter. So the solar panel allows us to run our USB ports. Which can run a small fan and charge our phones. One day we’ll get more panels and an inverter, but right now this is enough.

Battery Box

We have two 6V golf cart batteries that we bought from Costco. Each battery lives outside the camper in this fancy box. We have not had a problem with water getting inside the battery boxes.

Battery Cables

Since we replaced the batteries we needed new cables. These are the ones that we bought for our golf cart batteries.

Battery Disconnect

And since we bought new batteries and new cables we thought that we needed a disconnect switch. This turns the power off to the camper. So that way the power isn’t drained from the batteries. We have a 12V fridge that stays on….all the time. And the disconnect switch turns it off, even with having solar.

RV Flying Insect Screen

The title is pretty self explanatory. These are severely needed! No one wants critters crawling over them while they sleep. This prevents that!

Ox Blox

This was such a game changer for us. In the past, we’ve used 2×4 pieces of wood under the camper hitch of the trailer. We’ve always had problems getting the camper hitch to disconnect from the ball on the truck. We bought this heavy block to replace the boards. We have yet to have any issues with unhitching the camper from the truck. The camper even feels more sturdy while resting on the block.

RV Backup Camera

Another one of those expensive items that some campers feel like they don’t need. This is something that we have had on our wish list for months. We finally have one! And it’s currently on sale right now!
