RV Camping Planner
I used to think that an RV camping planner was a waste of time. Well…that was until we LOST AN EMAIL! And we had no idea where we were camping. SMH!
How do you lose an email?? David will tell you that he didn’t lose the email. He deleted it on accident and no, he didn’t LOSE anything!
We made the reservation about 9 months in advance. And usually I do a ton of research and write it all in my notebook. Well I couldn’t find any notebooks that had any research on Estes Park campgrounds. And David didn’t have an email confirming where we were staying.
How did this happen? How did we make reservations and have no idea where we were staying?
We spent weeks retracing our steps and me frantically looking through all my notebooks trying to find where my research went. Only I couldn’t remember doing ANY research on the campgrounds, which is odd.
Long story short, we figured out where we were staying after weeks of doing more research. David had to call this campground because we couldn’t make the reservations online. (We NEVER call the campgrounds and ALWAYS make the reservations online.) The lady whom he spoke to, recommended a certain site for us and he booked the camp spot over the phone with her at that time.
Since then, I use a planner. I write everything down in the planner. It’s grown and I’ve modified it to help every camper make planning a family RV camping trip so much easier. And, that way, what happened to us, won’t happen to you!
What is an RV camping planner
This planner will be your one stop shop for planning a family RV camping trip. The planner is over 50 pages. 35 of those pages are to help you plan your RV camping trip. The other pages are journal pages and games for the whole family to use.
What is in an RV camping planner? In the planner, you’ll have a couple pages that will house all your campground info. The planner also has 2 types of calendars for you to fill in as needed. One that starts on Monday and one that starts on Sunday. You choose which one will work for you. There is a campground review page, campground amenities checklist, budget and expense pages, activities itinerary and checklists galore. You know, so you don’t forget someone’s underwear.
The Family RV Camping Planner is only $5! You can purchase it below!
Why an RV camping planner and not an App
Apps are great. We use a ton of them, especially for camping and off-roading. For me, I like to have all my research, campground info and notes in one spot. Using an app, it’ll show me my planned out trip on a map, but it won’t have all my notes and research. I can put in all my notes and stops in the app, then I feel like I’m doing double work.
I say do what is best for you, not what I think is best for me. There are great apps out there to help with planning a family RV camping trip. I heard Roadtrippers is a great one. You can use some features for free, but then you’ll have to pay an annual rate.
I use the planner to plan my actual trip, make notes about my research, plan stops along the way, packing list for the RV like clothes and food, meal plan and a bunch of other things. I’m not sure one app can do all that. 😉
How to use the planner
The first 6 pages are all about the campground, reservations and amenities. This is where you’ll write in all you campground info: website, the address to where you are staying, site # if you know it already, what amount has already been paid and what is owed, if there is an entrance fee and if there is an extra fee for kids.
Then the next two pages are budget and expense trackers. To help you keep track of your spending or how much you think activities will cost.
This next page is my favorite, Location Research! This will help you keep all the places, that you look up and find prices for, in one location! Such a great page to have.
The Camping Itinerary page is the help you keep track of all the activities that you have planned on one page. You can even hang it on the fridge so the kids can see too!
Then we have a gazillion checklists: first aid, camping gear, kids, camper, food, shopping… I even included blank ones so you can fill in your own items.
There are also meal planner calendars, eating out budget, fuel tracker and a maintenance log for the camper as well.
The next 20 pages are camping activities and journaling pages! These can be used for the whole family, not just the kids!
Quick tips to make the family RV planner work for you
- Scan the first 36 pages. See what you need, what will work, what checklists you’ll use, and what trackers will work for you
- Print out what you think you will need. If you use a calendar that starts on Sunday, don’t print the calendar that starts on Monday and try to make that work for you.
- Pages 36-58 are games, journaling pages, and places for you to fill in about your trip. What pages will the family actually use?
- Don’t get overwhelmed by the size of the planner. Go through it slowly and have fun planning your trip. 🙂
