Family Adventure on Mosquito Pass
We took another family adventure in Leadville. This time we went on Mosquito Pass and it did not disappoint. You could see for MILES! The views were breathtaking!
We liked this trail a lot. Not just for the views but it was a fun challenging trail. Not too challenging but it kept us completely engaged most of the time. Those are the trails that we love!
Why should you go on Mosquito Pass
We like trails that are a little harder than a bumpy gravel road, trails that you need a bit of clearance to get through. We like bumps and dips and rough spots and especially creek crossings! This trail had it all. If you pop over to our YouTube channel you’ll get to see the video of this trail.
Mosquito Pass Trail Conditions
The trail is a bit rocky on the west side of the pass. The east side is a bit easier. There are several switchbacks on the west side that the driver would be on the cliffside. David didn’t seem bothered at all. We are in a Jeep Gladiator and didn’t have to back up in order to make the turn on the switchbacks.
Mosquito Pass Points of Interests
Lunch Spot
We usually stop and have lunch on the trails that take a couple of hours. This trail we didn’t. Once the trail ended in Alma, we drove into Breckenridge to have lunch.
But… if we did plan on having lunch on the trail, we would have stopped at the North London Mine on the east side. There was lots of room to pull over and make lunch. We talk more about the mine below.
Views
The views on the trail are breathtaking. The 360 degree mountain views are truly amazing!!
Old Mines
There are several old mines that we passed along the way too.
Diamond Mine
This is the first mine we came upon on the trail. It is located right as you start Mosquito Pass on the west side.
North London Mine
This is the mine I mentioned above. There is an informational sign in front of the mine along the trail. While we were there, many other people stopped and walked around a bit.
North London Mill
Not to be confused with North London Mine… this mill was located a little down the road and tucked away behind some large brush. When we went, the road to the mill was blocked off. It appeared that there was construction work being done to the mill.
Mosquito Pass downfalls
Well, the trail takes after its’ name! It’s a mountain pass, that has mosquitos! Expect them even at the top of the pass. They are a tad annoying, as you might imagine.
Other than that, it’s a great trail, with amazing views.
Key Takeaways
- 360 degrees of amazing mountain views. Such an amazing trail with adventure and breathtaking views. Even from cliffside. 😉
- The trail is a bit rocky. We saw several fellow jeepers and one crazy guy hiking to the top! I did ask the man if he was ok, needed any water or a snack and he said that he was fine!
