Family Adventure Guide: Where to Camp, Hike, Play and Explore Part 4

Where to camp, play, hike and explore in Manitou Springs, Colorado! Family Adventure Guide Part 4 of 5 in this series!

If you haven’t read Part 1, you need to do that! Then read Part 2 and Part 3

I have searched countless times for “family friendly camping in Colorado” or “family friendly hikes in Colorado Springs” or “kid friendly off-road trails” only to turn up empty handed and nothing in my notebook of “Great Ideas.”

In this 5 part series of our Colorado Springs (And surrounding area) Family Adventure Guide, I am going to outline a good place to camp with kids, a great playground that feels safe, a family-friendly hike and an off-road trails that the kids will love!

The locations in part 2 & 3 were in Woodland Park. Today we’ll explore Manitou Springs. Those of you that have been hanging around us for a while know that we LOVE Woodland Park & Green Mountains Falls.

Where to Camp near Manitou Springs

Garden of the Gods RV Resort is nice, clean and safe feeling. The surrounding neighborhoods are very nice. The proximity to Garden of the Gods is amazing too. (If you read part 1 you know that I already mentioned this RV Park. But when there aren’t many nice one’s to choose from, well, your options are limited.)

Amenities:

  • Lodging options: Cabin rentals and RV spots
  • 2 heated pools
  • Arcade and game room
  • General store
  • Free wifi
  • Can accommodate large rigs (the site doesn’t specify this but we have seen very large Class A’s there, I would call to double check)
  • Playground
  • Laundry (They have HOT driers. I may have shrunk a load of laundry!)

Where to Hike near Manitou Springs

Cabin Canyon Trail in Garden of the Gods is probably our favorite trail in that park. In part 1 of this series I talked about Siamese Twins Trail. This trailhead is in the same parking lot. It’s another loop trail, those are always nice. One big circle to remove the guessing game of “am I still on the trail?”

Where to Play in Manitou Springs

Manitou Memorial Park in Manitou Springs so nice, serene, quiet and peaceful. The kids and I felt safe here. I did have to pay for parking. I parked right in front of the playground. We intended to be there a couple hours, so it was easier for me to pay the parking meter.

There is a playground structure, a large open field, a cute little tree nook and access to the creek! Winner winner chicken dinner!

The kids and dog had a great time. And Garden of the Gods RV park is not even 2 miles away.

Where to Explore near Manitou Springs

Balanced Rock near Woodland Park (up the canyon from Manitou Springs) is a great off-road trail. The kids had a great time climbing all the boulders. I feel like we climbed them all. Ha! Balanced Rock is fun to explore around.

At the end of the trail there is a reservoir that we hiked around and Luna enjoyed a dip. It was very pretty and well worth the drive.

Copy and paste the GPS Coordinates for this trail into OnX, GAIA or Google Maps to get directions to the trail head. 39.06661, -105.02333
