Things to do in Green Mountain Falls
Green Mountain Falls is my FAVORITE little mountain town. I love this place! Anyone who comes to visit us, we take them to Green Mountain Falls. And Woodland Park, but that’s for another post. 😉
Green Mountain Falls is a little gem outside of Colorado Springs. This little mountain town sits between Colorado Springs and Woodland Park off highway 24. If you’ve gone to Woodland Park, you drove right past it.
There are many fun things to do in Green Mountain Falls. But if you are looking for adventure sports, this place isn’t for you. If you want a to take a stroll around a lake, play on the playgrounds, swim, fish, hike, eat good food, enjoy a waterfall, then this place is for you!
We seriously visit this place like once a month! And the drive from Colorado Springs to Green Mountain Falls is just beautiful.
Where is Green Mountain Falls
The easiest way take I-25 to Highway 24- West. Go West. Past Manitou Springs until you get to the light at Fountain Ave, go left. If you go right, that’ll take you to the Library. Once on Fountain Ave you’ll get to a fork in the road. Left will take you to the top of Pikes Peak and right will take you into Chipita Park. Go right. It’s a cute little drive along the creek and some houses. Once this road ends, go left. The road will take you into Green Mountain Falls.
If you put Green Mountain Falls into your GPS, it’ll take you another way. So…Yes, I took you the long way, but the best way!
Where to stay in Green Mountain Falls
- Green Mountain Falls Lodge– The Lodge was built in 1910. Each room still hold true to the character of the lodge. If you are looking for the Marriot, then this isn’t the place for you. But if you want historic charm tucked away in the mountains, this place is for you.
- The Outlook Lodge– This lodge is a rustic mountain retreat. They have several different types of rooms. Much larger than your standard hotel room and with more charm and character. They even have a 2 bedroom family suite with a queen bed and bunkbeds. The Lodge and Beaver Inn share a couple of amenities, as per their websites. The guests at the Outlook Lodge can use the hot tub at Little Beaver Inn.
- Little Beaver Inn– A much more modern accommodations than the other 2 lodges. The rooms are standard but super modern, light and bright. They all have a view of the court yard. The Little Beaver Inn has a hot tub that guests have the luxury of using. You will also have access to The Outlook Lodge fire circle and full kitchen, as per their website.
- Rocky Top Campground– This campground isn’t on the same street as the Lodges. It’s actually across highway 24, but still technically in Green Mountain Falls. They have a motel there as well as camping spots for your RV. The campground has full hookups with 30/50 amps. They have a shower house and laundry as well.
- VRBO– There are several house rentals in Green Mountain Falls. The town has beautiful homes and you can’t choose the wrong one.
Fun things to do in Green Mountain Falls
Have a picnic at the lake
This is something that we do a lot. We’ll pack lunch and bring it to the lake for a picnic. We usually play on the playground, hike a trail then eat lunch. Sometimes I’ll cook a lunch on the camp stove and sometimes we’ll pack sandwiches and chips.
Skyspace
Skyspace is the newest addition to Green Mountain Falls. It is an 18 foot tall square building that you get to immerse in a kinetic light and color encounter while you are looking up at the sky via a retractable roof. Please visit the Greenbox website for more details, show times, pricing and directions on how to access Skyspace.
Daily events
The mega list of fun things to do in Green Mountain Falls! Seriously they have events daily, multiple times a day.
Hike
There are miles and miles of trails to hike. Here is the hiking map of the town. You cannot park your car at the trailheads at all here. There are 3 parking lots to utilize. You will then need to hike to the trailhead. At first I found this super odd that we couldn’t park at the trail head. But once you walk around and hike the trails you’ll see why. Making parking lots would take away the town feel and beauty.

Play at the playground
There are 2 playgrounds. One located near the pool and the other near the lake. The one at the lake has more playground like feel, with swings, a slide and play structure. The one near the pool is small, and only has a small play structure. There is also a basketball and tennis court, as well as a fitness court, all near the pool.
Play in the creek
This is a favorite of ours! We have explored up and down this creek. We’ve brought toys to float down the creek. Jeeps to drive across the creek and trucks that don’t make it across. So far, we haven’t lost anything yet! I do suggest to bring water shoes. If your kids are anything like mine, they will try to see how far they can jump across the creek. And there will be one kid that doesn’t make it.
Swim
Green Mountain Falls has a public HEATED pool. The pool isn’t open very long and there is a fee. But it’s heated! That’s a win in my book!
Climb a waterfall
There is a place where you can climb parts of the waterfall. There is another section of the falls that you can walk across. SUPER COOL!!!!
The picture above is the kids climbing part of the falls. To access this, you’ll need to hike to the Kirkpatrick trail head. Then instead of going left to start the hike, you go straight, across a little bridge. It’ll appear that you are trespassing, but there is a sign reminding you to stay on the trail. Go left up the steps. Continue to climb until you get to the little pool where the waterfall trickles down the rocks.
I recommend hiking shoes that are waterproof. The rocks are slippery and water shoes just might not cut it.
Stroll around the lake
Our dogs favorite. Beware of goose poop and Mother Goose. Her goslings are getting big and probably will fly away soon, but she’s a fierce protector. There is a path that goes all the way around the lake. Watch out for Mother Goose and fishermen. They are always reeling in fish.
Enjoy local good food
There are 3 restaurants that are in walking distance from the lake. The Pantry, Mucky Duck and Blue Moose Tavern. The Pantry serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. Mucky Duck is your upper scale dining. And Blue Moose Tavern is your local dive bar. There is something here ever everyone!
Fish at the lake
Fishing is something that we really enjoy. Our oldest son chooses to do that every year for his birthday. Last year he was the only one to catch a fish! The lake is stocked and there is a daily limit.
